About
The International American covers U.S. politics and foreign policy through an international lens. We write for Americans who take the world seriously.
What We Do
We cover the intersection of American power and global affairs: defense, diplomacy, trade, economics, and the domestic politics that shape all of it. Our readers are professionals, policymakers, and citizens who need to understand how American decisions ripple outward and how the world pushes back.
We report first and interpret second. Our news coverage is factually rigorous. Our analysis is clearly labeled. Our opinion section is honest about what it is.
Editorial Principles
Take the world seriously. Every story assumes the reader is intelligent and wants to understand complexity, not have it reduced to heroes and villains.
American interests are legitimate. We cover the world through the lens of American interests. Every country's press does this. We do it openly and honestly.
Skepticism toward all institutions. We are skeptical of government claims, American and foreign, international organizations, NGOs, and corporations equally. No sacred cows.
Respect the reader. No clickbait. No outrage farming. No engagement optimization at the expense of substance.
Ideological independence. We are not a party organ. We praise sound policy regardless of which party proposes it, and criticize poor policy on the same basis.
Institutional Voice
The International American publishes under an institutional voice. Articles do not carry individual bylines. This is a deliberate editorial choice: the writing stands on its own merits. Every piece must meet the institution's standard, not just an individual's.
